The repair process for your rim depends on the type of damage it has. Some rims can be restored and repaired, but a badly damaged wheel needs to be replaced.
Replacement Required:
- Bent Rims – If you hit a pothole or curb hard enough, your rim can buckle or bend. While it can be repaired, you may still experience vibrations at speed.
- Cracks – If you see hairline cracks along the rim’s surface it is unadvisable to have it fixed. Even if you have it professionally repaired, it may no longer be as structurally sound as before.
- Major curb damage – If a section of the rim’s lip is completely missing, it should be replaced immediately.
Repairs Are Possible:
- Minor cosmetic scuffs – scratches and a dull finish can be repaired with an alloy wheel repair kit. Bear in mind that some Tesla wheels have special finishes. This makes refurbishment tricky.
- Curb rash – those annoying marks along your Tesla rims can sometimes be repaired. But, a professional refurb is expensive. And doing it yourself might not always look great.
How To Repair Your Tesla Rim
- Remove the paint from the damaged sections
- Sand down any rough parts
- Fill in gouged or grooved areas
- Prime and paint the wheel
