How To Make Bumper Release Band Last Longer

Quick release

Bumper release bands are a great addition to your vehicle because they:

Yet, bumper release bands come with a drawback: they’ll break eventually. It’s because the UV rays from the sun break down the rubber. Like rust, you can try to stop the rubber breakdown, but nature always wins.

The good news is there are ways to prolong the life of your bumper release bands:

1. Park Inside Or In The Shade Whenever You Can

The sun is your bumper release bands’ worst enemy. As long as you keep them out of direct sunlight, the rubber won’t be so quick to dry out and break. The rubber will degrade over time because rubber doesn’t last forever. Yet, keeping your car out of the sun as much as possible will make a difference. The bands will last much longer.

Try to make a point to park in a garage, a parking garage, or the shade.

2. Use A Car Cover

If you have no choice but to park in direct sunlight often, consider investing in a car cover. Be sure to get a car cover that’s breathable and has all-weather protection. A car cover will help prolong the life of your bumper release bands.

3. Be Sure Not To Install The Buttons Too Far Apart

When the rubber bumper release bands have too much tension, they’ll stretch out. When exposed to the sun often enough, the stretched out bands will break sooner than later.

So when you install your bumper release bands, be sure that the buttons are the right distance from each other. You want to create the right amount of tension.

While installing All-Fit Bumper Quick Release Bands, make sure that the distance between the center of both holes is 2.25”. This makes the total width of the band from edge to edge of the band stretch about 3” wide. You can stretch the All-Fit bands a little more for a stronger pull if necessary.

It’s A Good Idea To Have An Extra Set Or Two On Hand

When the bands wear out too much, they break. That can be quite detrimental, especially if you’re driving. That’s why it’s always a good idea to have an extra set or two on hand.
