Red silver trims

Removing the door edge trim is an easy job that can be done within minutes. Read on to find out how.

The Only Things You’ll Need Before Starting

You don’t even need to bust open your toolbox. To tackle this project effectively, you will only need:

  • A hair dryer (possibly a heat gun)
  • Rubbing alcohol

3 Steps to Take

Follow these steps to remove the door edge trim on your car:

  1. Use the hair dryer on low heat to warm up the edge trim. This softens the adhesive. Take your time and be careful not to overheat. If the trim isn't getting warm, increase heat slightly. If the trim is really stubborn, a heat gun may be the best option.
  2. After the trim feels warm or almost hot to the touch, slowly peel it away from the door.
  3. Once the trim is off, remove any residual adhesive with a rag and rubbing alcohol.

Installing New Door Edge Trim

The door edge trim installation steps vary between brands. Here’s an overview of the installation process, and it’s based on the  All-Fit Edge Trim:

  1. Park your car in a warm place that's over 65 degrees.
  2. Mix equal parts water and rubbing alcohol.
  3. Thoroughly clean the door edges you want to apply the trim to with the water/rubbing alcohol mixture. Let dry.
  4. Measure the door edge and then cut the trim to the correct length.
  5. Peel off the adhesive and then firmly press the trim to the door edge.
  6. Wait 24 hours for the bonding to adhere before washing your car.
